Cruise Ships Recycle Cooking Oil
With the use of bio-diesel fuel an opportunity surfaced for cruise ships to power the engines. Today cooking oil can be used for fuel rather than transport it to port for disposal. Using the spent cooking oil for fuel is an appreciable savings to the industry.
With this opportunity came a demand for new solutions.
The challenge:
Safely transport the used cooking oil
from the kitchen to the engine room.
Remove food particles from the oil.
This requires a product that combines safety and reliability in an astetic package.
Our solution:
We asked the customer to supply a preliminary design for their concept. Then we worked closely with the customer to create the proto-type which led to the final product. Bottom seams were re-inforced to avoid leaks.
Initial Strainer
The oil carts use multiple filters (or strainers) to remove food particles from the oil. Pictured is the initial strainer which removes the larger particles. Additional filtration steps are included in the transport cart.
Testing the system
The system was tested for reliable operation, leakage, and ease of movement.
